Ok look Pierce signed a 3 year extension through 09-10. He was due to be a free agent next off season in real life if he opted out of his contract. Let's say he opted out of his player option. This would mean 07-08= 1st year, 08-09 secound year, 09-10= third year. So when they sign extensions their player option is void.

The way this league works, a player is considered to opt out if they leave the team, not just if they sign an extension, as without an extension they would not have opted out

not exactly no, the team is buying out the option, if the option is declined the player is a free agent. The player isn't opting out, the team is buying it out, there is a major difference, it is more that the player accept the option, then the team buys out the accepted option.

If a player signs an extension it means that they donnot opt out. So we go by their original contract as if they didn't opt out.

but the player never accepts his player option. So if you don't accept a player option in real life, then he doesn't in this league either.

However they don't take their player option when they sign an extension.

Look at his contract on hoopshype. Before the extension it was like this..
$15,101,626 / $16,360,095 / $0
Which meant he had a player option for the final year.
He picked up the option, accepting it, and then signed a 3 year extension on it, which is why the color is black now and their are 3 empty areas after the last known year, because the exact numbers are unknown. He accepted his option.
