At the end of each year, we get rid of 3 teams from each conference. First, we would target any inactive teams, instead of replacing them with new GMs. If there aren't enough of those, we would eliminate the teams with the worst records. Their players become free agents, and because they can't be resigned by their own teams, any other team, especially those with cap space, have a chance at signing them.
For example, in the west, lets say at the end of this season, the standings are the same, but the Clippers GM hasn't logged on in months. His team is eliminated, along with Memphis and New Orleans. Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker, Adam Morrison, LaMarcus Aldridge, Andre Miller, Jamal Crawford, etc all become available free agents that are available to anyone. If Utah Jazz still has cap space, they suddenly have the chance to get Tony Parker and Jamal Crawford and balance out their team of: Bogut / Bargnani / Williams / Crawford / Parker. Lets say the Bucks are able to use their $30 million in cap space to sign Dirk Nowiztki and Adam Morrison, they suddenly have a team of: Dwight Howard / Dirk Nowitzki / Adam Morrison / Martell Webster / Chris Paul and are a good playoff team.
The horrible teams are eliminated. The inactive teams are eliminated. The bad teams get better. The chances of winning a title for everyone increases greatly. Losing is shunned (last year people began tanking for better draft picks, that wouldnt happen if this was the case). The next year it continues. We can stop it once we are at a level where every team is close, or we are all active GMs.
i think narrowing it to 24 teams would be a good idea to start, we dont have to eliminate 6 teams after every season, but i wouldnt mind getting rid of 6 teams originally. GMs DO get fired in real life, why not on here? in this case though we will just spread out the talent instead of rehiring new people.
