As of right now, teams over the cap are not able to resign their free agents.
The way this works in the NBA, is they have bird rights. Basically, if someone has been on your team for atleast 3 years, you have their bird rights and can resign them even if you are over the cap. In this league, not only have we not kept track of that, but it would be really hard to enfore and figure out who has which bird rights. We would basically have to rely on our memories and trust eachother, and a lot of you haven't been here since the beginning to know what trades went on.
So, as of this offseason, we are saying that you can't just resign all of your FA's. If they are unrestricted, they are out of your hands.
However, should we also abolish the MLE? If anyone doesn't know how that works, just ask and someone will explain it. Right now though, I planned on saying nobody can use it. Do you guys think this is a good idea to ensure some good offseasons for some? Or is the no resigning UFA's already plenty?
We could say yes, anyone can have it, or yes, you can use it as long as you aren't over the cap by $15,000,000 or so (so if you have $80,000,000+ you don't get it.) (If you have restricted free agents, you wouldn't be able to use it until you have resigned them and are still under the limit). Let me know what you guys think about this.

Honestly, I think that taking away the right to sign UFAs is enough, but I wouldn't mind keeping things under a "hard cap". Many teams are over the cap. We would be greatly limiting their activity during the offseason by taking away one of the very few things they have to do, sign FAs using their MLE.

I honestly think that this league should be about making decisions. If you are over the cap you shouldn't be able to sign anyone that is not Restricted or making league minimum or LLE. That might mean you need to make trades and clear capspace or risk losing the player. I don't really see what would be fun about signing players and having to make little to no decisions from year to year.

I like to make this like the NBA. I think those over the cap should get the MLE.

I voted yes but we need a hard cap then.... My thinking to this is most owner's in the NBA don't want to pay luxary tax that is why big name free agents leave. Also if we have a hard cap it can bring some parody into the league because I am sure everyone can agree we are tired of seeing the spurs vs pistons lol granted they have done a great job as gm don't get me wrong but if nothing changes, those teams will never have to break up meaning the same thing year in and year out.

and I believe I only picked up Matt Harpring, who didn't contribute much. I also only resigned Nazr Mohammed, who contributed even less. Me and Detroit made our teams through trades, not FA.
I see what you mean though, you want me to have to decide between Wade or LeBron, because right now I can resign them both.

i voted for an MLE, it helps people fill out the roster. Our salaries in this league have a tendency to be inflated, so it isn't like you'll get a star on the MLE, but it can help you get a role player who plays 5-10 minutes off the bench.

I wasn't singling you out spurs, I mean this for every team. No I don't expect wade and lebron's to hit free agency, however what is the fun of keeping the same team every year. The fact you got wade AND lebron without giving up duncan is incredible gming. This doesn't mean I want you to lose your stars at all but I would like teams to eventually have a chance to be successful as well. A hard cap in my eyes would limit a team's spending because if we don't have a hard cap,(not saying you will) but teams could easily have over 100 mil in salaries and we are not all the knicks

In all honesty, I don't plan on trying to conquer this league every year that its around. I'll continue stacking my team the best I can until I win my first championship, and then I'll not completely destroy it, but break it up somehow so that I can stay in contention, but not continue to have 70 win seasons. We aren't going to have a hardcap in terms of not being able to go over it. When I said something about a "hard cap" i meant like teams over a certain threshhold, like our own "luxury tax limit," those teams couldn't use their MLE.

We shouldn't limit SA, or any team's, talent. It's rediculous people make arguments that one team is way too good. This is basketball, a competitive sport from the court to the front office. There are millions of ways to put together a winning team.

While that is a good point. Soon there will be other big time players that teams like SA or DET will have no chance of getting. Ala Greg Oden, over time that will catch up to those teams.
