What are some topics you think we need to address and clarify for this offseason?

One new rule I'm going to enforce, if you sign a player - you are paying them no matter what, even if they aren't in the game. That's part of the game. Orlando Magic drafted Fran Vazquez a few years ago and he never showed up, screwing them. New York Knicks paid Allan Houston atleast $60,000,000 after he retired.

Those Jay Williams type contracts, be prepared to pay them.
I don't know if that means I will have to keep track of everyone's salaries, I really hope it doesn't, because that would be a lot of work, updating it after each trade, but I don't want people removing salaries from their page after they cut someone (Brian Grant?).

Also, when I went through the salaries, I noticed a lot of people rebid on people who already had contracts. Someone would be signed for 3 years in 2005 and then again for 4 years in 2006, and nobody noticed that someone should have had them on their rosters. We will have to be more careful.

I really want to give everyteam the ONE TIME, ONE USE altered Amnesty rule. They will have so long to decide if they want to WAIVE ONE PERSON from their team to remove their salary. Like Atlanta might want to get rid of this contract:

Now I know some of those would be stupid to waive. It would hurt too much to lose Shaq, Allen, Redd, etc for nothing, but damn they make a lot of money. And you WILL have to pay them after they retire. You could do this to any 1 person, completely waive them from your roster and salary.

They would go back in to free agency, but you would not have a chance to resign them.

Another idea would be to let everyone get 1 altered version of this, you can PICK ONE PERSON and CHANGE their GM League salary to their REAL LIFE salary, but I don't know how sold I am on this idea. It would probably come down to one or the other.

The point of this is, we all made mistakes. We made a bad signing or two. We learned from our mistakes, we understand the game now. Also, some of us are hurting from other peoples mistakes. You might be new, and inherited a team that had a RIDICULOUS contract, like Mobley making $16,000,000 a year for 5 years.

Throw out some ideas in this thread of rules or ideas you want discussed. Any questions you have, or anything you need clarified, as me, and I'll come up with someone to solve it.

I think you're on the right track with the contracts thing. Im not sure which I prefer, both sound nice. I think most people would opt to keep their players if they could pay them less, so altering their contracts would sound better then losing the player altogether. Good ideas though.

What about having 1 of each? you can cut someone and change someone else to their original? I personally would rather be able to keep the person and go back to their old contract, but if i had to pick, id rather go with the other one. because it would add to the free agency, make it a much harder decision, and while it is helping them a lot in one way, it will hurt them in another. its not a win-win.

for rules, how are we doing mle and lle this year? and what about resigning people if you are over the cap? i thin kwe need to clarify all of our rules again

and what about bumping the cap up? and what aabout all of that hardcap talk we had?

I really like the Amnesty Release Rule, But it should be you can only put it into effect once every like 3 years.

I don't like the real life salary part about the new rules, we should scratch that.

that sucks though, i worked so hard to make sure all of my players have extremely reasonable contracts.. how many people here can say the person on their team making the most amount of money doesnt even make $6,000,000? so i wouldnt benefit from this at all.

I agree with Milwaukee. The teams that have those heavily paid players chose to sign them, and the teams that didn't made a smart decision. To give teams amnesty hurts bad teams(like mine) that have a lot of cap space because it provides more competition for players(more cash floating around) If the real life New York had to pay Allan Houston 20 million per, after he retired, as well as many other teams with many other contracts, I don't see why this should be different. A contract is a contract.

I like your input, thats why I made this a discussion instead of a new rule.
NBA did have a one time amnesty clause a couple years ago, which is why Dallas cut Finley. It wasn't the same, they still had to pay their original contract, but not luxury tax, which we don't have. It could hurt teams like yours, but then again, it could add new people to free agency, that others still might not be under the cap enough to sign. I don't know how it would work out, I don't know what everyone's financial status is like.

Teams like Milwaukee and Seattle may not release a player, so it doesn't hurt you nor help you. Instead it is perhaps hurting the teams actually giving up the player (depending on the talent being released). The teams like Milwaukee can now bid on these released players to add to their own team, so it might even benefit those teams by adding more players to the market.

What did we decide to do? Hard cap or no hard cap?

How bout adding to the amnesty rule, because I am for it, we say that if you decide to release a player from your team then you can not resign him as a free agent. This gives the teams that have prepared with good contracts a great shot at landing some overpaid talent. Also perhaps also say that if you are over the cap before releasing a player you can not bid on a player released from other teams as well, but you can obviously still bid on the players available in the regular free agent market.


I like the idea of keeping a guy under contract even after he retires b/c it adds more strategy to the game we play.

They wouldn't directly benefit from being able to get rid of a person with bad salary, but they already worked hard to make sure they didn't have horrible contracts, and they we would be letting everyone else get rid of one. That would hurt them because a lot more people will suddenly be under the cap and challenge them for free agents.

We decided against a hardcap, but I think we decided that if you are over the cap, you can sign your RFA, but not your UFA.

I already said that if someone releases a player, they have no chance to resign them. I even bolded it, lol.
I think if we decide to do this, we will have to set up some limits, I should have made this in to a poll, but hopefully everyone will just reply with their thoughts.

I agree I like both rules, but the amnesty better.

But I think the amnesty is a one time rule though, you can't use that kind of rule sometimes or a very few time.

You can defiantely change the salary of one of your players every 3 years though that could work a little every 3 years.

I HATE the idea of the salary switch, people made bad offers they can use the 1 time amnesty, but they have to weigh losing the player. Say Ray Allen, he makes 20 odd mil in this league, that's a ton, but the thing is he never would have been signed for his real salary. so if the new owner wants the cap relief he can cut him. Makes people weigh the benefit for a player

How about a sort of a compromise that helps both the good teams and the bad teams. Each team can be allowed to cut ONE player, but he will have still to pay 30 % of the player in question's salary for the duration of the contract. He isn't allowed to resign that player. This rule would give teams that made bad decisions a little room to breathe, while at the same time, helping bad teams by adding players to free agency.

Whats going to stop teams from using their whole salary cap to sign one playuer then use their one time drop to real salary and people will bid like 30 mil a year for a player then use their one time thing and drop that player to their regular contract

There are 4 teams that still need to check in.

If those 4 teams check in, that means everyone will have been here atleast a season. Everyone is comfortable with the league and how it works, and knows how to run their own teams. IF everyone returns for next season, I think I will get rid of the rules where committee members can reject a trade based on their opinions, because it will be their teams. But if the trade involves a new member, it must be carefully inspected.

I kind of like the new idea about CM's not rejecting trades but would you (SA/Admin) still have the power to overturn a trade that is clearly lopsided or a rip-off so that no one dumps players to a friend? If that is the case then I agree, I think everyone has it in their best interest for their teams and know how to trade.
